NOEP has collected offshore oil and gas data for all U.S. offshore producing regions: the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) leases (beyond three miles of most state's shore) and state waters (within 3 miles of most state's shore). These data, along with regional pricing information, are available for display and download on this website through the Oil & Gas Data page.   • Offshore oil production: 28% of the nation's total oil production (2004)
    • 23% from OCS leases
    • 3% from state waters
    • OCS Offshore Oil Production (2001)
      • Louisiana: 84% of the total U.S. OCS oil
      • California: 5% of the total U.S. OCS oil

  • Offshore natural gas production: 19% of U.S. total natural gas production (2004)
    • 17% from OCS leases
    • 2% from state waters
    • OCS Offshore Natural Gas Production (2001)
      • Louisiana: 78% of total OCS natural gas
      • All Other states: 22% of total OCS natural gas

  • Approximately 98% of all OCS leases are in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM).
